How did his experiences reflect the Anzac spirit?
The Anzac Spirit signifies attributes that symbolise their effort during the Gallipoli campaign. These attributes were formed around endurance, courage, ingenuity, good humour and mateship. Benjamin demonstrated these characteristics through his courage to run into the line of Turkish fire landing at Gallipoli. Providing cover fire he exhibited mateship towards fellow troops risking his life taking a wound to the left forearm. Returning back to service he assisted in issuing orders as an adjutant after being wounded conveying endurance. These valiant efforts during the Gallipoli campaign show the embodiment of the Anzac Spirit.
My own understanding of the Anzac Spirit
To me the Anzac Spirit symbolizes the embodiment of both Australian and New Zealand corps during the Gallipoli campaign. This battle pushed the Anzac’s to their limits defining the embodiment of a well-rounded solider not a weapon. When times looked all but lost their endurance and good humour moved them forward. Supplies often ran low with their ingenuity utilizing what they had to their advantage. Standing on the front line their courage and mateship kept them on their feet. Although they may had lost the battle it gave birth to the Anzac Sprit admirable qualities sought for in all people not just soldiers.
